Term 2 Week 10 - Thursday 29th June 2023
Notes from the Principal

As we reach the end of Term 2, I wish to thank you all for your constant support and the partnership we share in the education of your daughters at Catherine McAuley.
During the term we have continued to see young women thrive in many areas of their school lives. As well as working hard throughout the term to achieve strong academic results, they have also shown great effort and aptitude in a range of extra curricular activities. It was a joy to speak to them about this at yesterday’s school assembly, the transcript of which I have attached here for your perusal. I also reminded them to ensure they care for their body, their mind and their spirit over the holiday break.
I’d also like to thank those of you who attended the Parent / Student / Teacher feedback interviews yesterday and today. These meetings are always a great opportunity to celebrate your daughter’s progress and clarify questions you may have about her learning.
I wish you and your family a restful winter break, filled with the joy of family, friends and good times. We look forward to seeing you all next term.

News from the School Captains

Hey, hey, hey McAuley! It’s your School Captains Jasmine and Jacinta.
This term has been jam packed at McAuley, so here is a little recap of what occurred in the last couple months. Just last week, the school celebrated and raised awareness around Refugee Week. As a Mercy school, it is essential that all students and staff have an understanding on the issue surrounding refugees, and are aware of its prevalence in our contemporary society. In order to build awareness around these issues, our Social Justice Leaders Claudia and Alyssa, have been hard at work with the Mercy in Action Leaders, creating posters about refugees who have been able to find safety and make positive contributions in Australian society, giving us an insight into their story. Some examples of refugees mentioned included Anh Doh and Deng Adut.
Two other important events that occurred this term were Environment Week and STEM Week. Our Environment and Technology Leaders put their all into providing opportunities to enhance the students' ways of life and thinking, in order to contribute to society and push themselves to become the best they can be. Some examples of what our leaders put together included a beeswax workshop and McAuley thrift stall, as well as daily workshops surrounding different areas of STEM, to which all students were welcome to attend.
Earlier this term the school participated in the annual athletics carnival, which once again proved to foster school spirit and friendly competition…despite the cold. Another event was the Vinnies Winter Sleepout, in which students from Years 11 and 12 had the opportunity to experience a night out in the cold to raise awareness for homelessness. And finally, one of the most exciting events that took place this term was just two days ago…the Lip Sync Battle. We are happy to announce we placed in 2nd, with some very difficult competition from Years 7, 9, 11 and 12. All in all, we can confidently say it has been yet another successful and busy term at McAuley and we look forward to what the next one has in store.
