Term 3 Week 1 - Thursday 21 July 2022
News from the Acting Principal

Welcome to Term 3. We have had a busy first week of Term 3 with students settling back into school routine. Term 3 is the final term of formal schooling for Year 12 students so I ask you to keep them in your prayers as they undertake the trial HSC examinations and move towards their graduation ceremony at the end of the term.
We welcome the following staff joining the Catherine McAuley Community:
- Mr Jack Tween replacing Ms Emma Carah, teaching History and Geography.
- Ms Melissa King replacing Mrs Cheryl Pietrantonio, teaching English and Religion.
- Mrs Rebecca Romanous replacing Ms Isabel Szanto, teaching Music.
- Mr Dale Treglown appointed as Business Manager, replacing Ms Melissa Mead.
- Mrs Dominique Bounassif appointed as the Senior Financial Officer replacing Mrs Gabby Smithard.
We also welcome Mrs Marianne Nakhoul who has been on leave.
Year 11 2023 Subject Selection Market and Parent Information Night was held on Monday, 18th July. It was a great opportunity for Year 10 parents and students to meet with teachers to discuss subject options in preparation for senior studies. Despite a cold night the evening provided clarification and direction for parents and students as they plan their pattern of study for Year 11 and 12.
We wish our Years 7, 11 and 12 Debating teams well on Friday evening. They are competing in the quarter finals of the CSSDA Competition.
Congratulations to Year 11 student Ashyra C. and Year 10 students Shivali S. and Luise V. who have been nominated to represent the Parramatta Diocese at the National STEM MAD Student Showcase to take place in Melbourne in September.
Next week the Student Leaders of Culture, Social Justice, Technology and Hospitality have planned a range of activities at lunchtime to celebrate Grow in Unity: A Celebration of Friendship. We hope this is the beginning of a return to the McAuley tradition of students celebrating and sharing time together after two years of restrictions. This is the beginning of a number of activities throughout the term that focuses on building community and connecting and engaging students.
We will also celebrate Mercy Day on Friday, 2nd September with a week of activities leading up to a day of celebration. More information to come regarding the different activities planned for the term. Students will be kept informed of these activities by the Compass notices, House and Form Meetings.
During the Term 2 break many staff and families have been impacted by COVID and flu. As we begin Term 3, I take this opportunity to ask parents to revisit our CMW COVID Safe Student Guidelines and discuss with their daughter’s appropriate COVID safe practices travelling to and from school and the importance of following the guidelines at school. These guidelines cover the following areas:
- Student attendance requirements
- Covid close contact guidelines
- Covid safety at school and in the classroom
Please ensure that you send the school an email if you daughter is absent from school mcauleyattendance@parra.catholic.edu.au
We look forward to a productive term in all areas of learning as in the words of Catherine McAuley we ‘Strive for Higher Things’.
