News from the Acting Principal
Welcome to Term 3 to all staff and students. A special welcome to our new staff member Miss Julia Woo who is replacing Mrs Nakhoul in Performing Arts teaching music and also to our new students joining Catherine McAuley in Years 7, 8, 9, 10.
Term 3 is the start of our Year 12 students final 10 weeks of formal education and I ask that you remember them in your prayers as they prepare for the Trial HSC exams beginning on Monday, 5th August 2024. Some students' practical subjects have their Trial HSC exam practical component before this date. I acknowledge and thank the teachers who hosted seminars and workshops during the school break either at school, online or by marking practice questions that many students submitted online.
Due to the building work for the Performance Hub in the BM Building students have moved into the relocated demountable classrooms. These classrooms have been cleaned and painted, new carpet laid, new whiteboards and Apple TVs installed. The classrooms will also receive new desks in the coming weeks. In addition to the upgrade of these demountables the CB classrooms have also been upgraded with new desks and the IT Department are working with Leaders of Learning Curriculum on trialling a new screen in each Department that will act as an interactive whiteboard and Apple TV.
Earlier this week we finalised our fundraising for the Parramatta Women’s Shelter with the gift of $8560 and approximately $3000 in food and bed linen to be used in the establishment of another shelter. I thank the many staff and students who have supported this course throughout Term 2.
This week the Church celebrated the feast of Mary Magdalene. In the words of our prayer on Wednesday at Form Meetings to start the term, the prayer highlighted the importance of being bold to speak the truth as Mary Magdalene did in the time of Jesus. We have many examples of women who have been bold in speaking the truth including Catherine McAuley and Mary MacKillop. As we start Term 3 we encourage all members of our Catherine McAuley community to walk in the footsteps of these women to be Bold and Speak the Truth to all people, even the sceptics.
